EXCELLENT FIELDS
WELLINGTON TROTS
EARLY FAVOURITES REMAIN
There were very few defections from the fields for, the Wellington Trotting Club's Autumn. Meeting when acceptances were taken last night, and in every class the quality is strong. All the early favourites hold their ground in the main events, the R: A. Armstrong Memorial and Farewell Handicaps, and in only one or two. cases have prominent form' horses dropped out. , ■ -
King's Warrior and Bonny Azure, who have been among the bui'ning discussions for the R. A. . Armstrong Memorial-Handicap, will be well tested over the two-mile journey by Llewellyn's Pride, Tempest, Big Author, and Grace McElwyn, the issue being more open on paper than may appear at first sight. • ■ Gallant Knight is likely to start a warm favourite in the Farewell Handicap, as his form to rise so rapidly in less - than two seasons has been most impressive. Gerfalcon, Tan John, Swordsman,' and Franz Derby are among the trotters engaged woo have all'shaped like making the grade to metropolitan company, and among the improving pacers who have given promise above the average are Dark Hazard, Our Peggy, Reno, Jcevus, Ideal, ■ and War Path. The American horse Starwyn is a maiden pacer, with brilliance, but he will have to be every'inch a racehorse to hold his own with Mauri McKinney and Wynan.
