BRITAIN AND U.S.A.

POSSIBLE TRADE TALKS

EFFORTS TO FIND BASIS

NEW YORK, February 27.

The Washington correspondent of the "New York Times" says that officials have expressed an informal opinion that the new trade agreement between Britain and Canada providing for reciprocal preferential treatment will facilitate in some respects efforts to find a basis for the negotiation of a reciprocal trade agreement between the. United: States and the ■United Kingdom. Others believe it will make it more difficult.

The problem depends not only on Great Britain's arrangement with Canada, but also on the result of conversations London is understood to be conducting with other Dominions. It is felt that the efforts are likely to depend on how eager the United Kingdom is for an agreement with the United States, since opportunity must be found within the Empire preferential system for concessions to America in return for those America would give. .'/.-■'
