TEAR GAS USED

BROADWAY CINEMAS

27 PERSONS INJURED

NEW YORK, February 27.

In a new outbreak of labour trouble tear gas and stench bombs exploded almost simultaneously, due to timing devices, in six cinemas on Broadway, injuring twenty-seven persons by flying glass or gas, one seriously, and routed hundreds of patrons, who, coughing and gasping, jammed the streets outside.

The management of the theatres, which are part of a chain, denied difficulties with the employees, but the police said that the trouble apparently resulted from an attempt to organise the Ushers' Union, which is not affiliated to the American Federation of Labour.
