PIPING AND DANCING

LOCAL OFFICERS ELECTED

There was a large attendance at a meeting held on Saturday evening to elect officers of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Piping and Dancing Association. Representatives .were present from almost every part of the centre. Mr. Lan Cameron (Masterton) presided. 1 Mr. Cameron stated that the formation of the centre would uplift the i whole of the games now being run by various societies in the district. It would also tend towards the standardisation of judging. There was also the matter of the proper wearing of the kilt. Mr. C. Stewart (Wellington) and Mr. J. McKenzie (Masterton) also stressed ! the need for the centre, the latter also mentioning the need of encouraging I piping as well as dancing at the [various sports gatherings. The name's, of twenty-six men were added to the list of foundation members. Six of them are resident in Wellington, four at Masterton, two airPalmerston North, Motueka, and Martinborough, and one each at Mangatainoka, Oroua Downs, Turakina, Feuding, Mauriceville, Rangituma, Featherston, Nelson, Petone, and Khandallah. Officers were elected as follows: — President, Mr. Len. McKenzie (Wellington); chairman of executive, Mr. Lan Cameron (Mauriceville); secretarytreasurer, Mr. M. Gray Nasmith (Wellington); executive, Messrs. Lan Cameron (Mauriceville), C. Stewart, sen., C. Stewart, jun., M. Gray Nasmith, W. A. Blair, W. A, Baudinet, J. W. Brown, M. R. Price, A. Barclay, T. G. Bedding (Wellington), J. McKenzie, K. McKenzie, J. A. Bird' (Masterton), G. McLennan (Lower Hutt), T. S. Arcus (Carterton), W. Ross (Petone), R. Glasgow (Turakina), A. McDonald (Palmerston North),-M. Ross (Msngatainoka), and. Sergeant A. McCowan (Eketahuna). The boundaries of the-centre were temporarily defined to include the Wairarapa. Manawatu, Nelson, and Motueka districts, ,witn expansion as deemed advisable. It was agreed to seek the association's ruling as to the standard adopted by that body in the matter of national dress. '
