COOKS AND STEWARDS
COASTAL RATES OF PAY
The following minimum monthly rates of wages are; specified in an Arbitration Court award covering cooks and stewards employed by coastal shipping companies:—Chief stewards (passenger steamers), £18 15s 6d; chief stewards, £17 15s 6d; chief cooks (passenger steamers), £18 15s 6d: chief cooks, £17 15s 6d; cook-stew-ard (passenger steamer), £18 : 15s 6d; cook-steward (no assistant), £19'15s 6d; cook-steward (with assistant),?£ 17 15s 6d; assistant steward, £13 15s ; 6d; assistant cook, £13 15s 6d; stewardess, £10 Bs. : '■■'■
The award fixes overtime payment at the rate of 2s 6d an hour, except in the case of ratings ' whose monthly wages are fixed at £17 15s 6d or more, to whom the payment is to be 2s 9d. Hours of work in all cases are fixed=;?l eight a day. Any worker in the employ of one ship for 12 months is entitle* to 14 days' holiday on full pay.
