L. J. ELLIS'S INCAPACITY
Particulars about the nature of the trouble that has incapacitated L. J. Ellis in Victoria are given by Mr. C. W. Duncan, of Wellington, who returned from Melbourne this week.1 Before Mr. Duncan left Melbourne last week Ellis had entered a private hospital, where he is to remain at-least another two weeks. The suggestion of his returning home with Mr. Duncan was immediately abandoned on the recommendation of an. eye specialist. Absolute quiet for a few weeks is essential, -after which something definite as to the extent of the affection to his eye will be known.. At present the sight of his right eye has practically failed. . Ellis was not struck in the eye by a clod, neither did he suffer a fall on ttie Melbourne training tracks. His present condition is attributed to the results of the bad spill he sustained at Wingatui in 1932, when he suffered severe concussion, as well as a fractured thigh. Since then he. has had recurring trouble with his eye, but until recently it was only slight.
At a ■ complimentary social at Morrinsville last weekend, Mr. F. J. Marshall, who is leaving for England this week, was presented with a wallet containing 100 guineas. Among the horses Mr. Marshall bred and reared was Bedford, winner of. the Takapuna and Winter Cups, and he also bred Awarere, winner of the Auckland HacingiClub'gsSailwaX'Handicap,; ,
