FRICTION ENDED

THE SHANGHAI CLASH

BRITISH AND ITALIANS

(Received February 26, 11 a.m.) SHANGHAI, February 25. The Anglo-Italian friction ended when an Italian officer and sailors left flowers and sweets at a hospital where British soldiers are being treated.

Four rankers of the North Lancashire Regiment were injured in a dance hall fight with Italian ratings of the cruiser Lepanto. The combatants used lead piping, weighted clubs, chairs, and bottles. Forty men on each side were involved in the dispute. Military police separated them. A number of Italians were previously reported to have been injured.
