GUILTY OF CONTEMPT

AUTHOR OF PENSION PLAN

WASHINGTON, February 24.

Dr. Francis E. Townsend, founder of the 200-dollars-a-month old age pension plan, who "walked out" on a committee of inquiry of the House of Representatives last May and advised several of his followers not to give evidence or obey subpoenas, was convicted of contempt of the House by a Federal jury.

Sentence was deferred.

The statute imposes a maximum penalty of 1000 dollars in fine and a year in common gaol.
