CONGRESS MAJORITIES

DELHI, February 25.

The Congress Party captured 27 of the 46 seats in the Upper House at Madras, ensuring a majority. Also it has so far won 32 seats in the Lower House, defeating the Maharaja of Pithapuram, leader of the People's Party. The Congress Party secured a majority in the Central Provinces Lower House with 59 seats out of 112, although only 90 results have been announced so far. The Maharaja of Patiala was elected Chancellor of the Indian Chamber of Princes, which is regarded as a constructive step towards federation.
