MIST AND RAIN

Forecast for Wellington:-—

Moderate northerly winds freshening somewhat. Cloudy to overcast with mist and rain at times.

The forecast for the Dominion is for light to fresh north to northeast winds with a change to southerlies advancing later over the southern half of the South Island. The weather is still likely to be mainly cloudy to overcast with rain at times in most districts. Some mist and fog is still probable.

Barometric pressure is high to the cast, and although fairly uniform over the Dominion, a shallow depression just to the west has been responsible for the continuance of dull, misty weather generally. Scattered rain has fallen in most districts and has been mostly light, but there have been some heavy falls in northern and western portions of the South Island. Motueka reports 354 points, and flooding; Nelson, 271 points; Farewell Spit, 212 points; Okuru, 190 points; Westport, 116 points; and Arthur's Pass, 115 points. Winds have been mainly only light and only moderate in force, but have freshened at times in a few exposed places. Southerlies predominated yesterday about and south of Cook ■Strait, but this morning the direction was north-east •;'■ and northerly over most of the Dominion.

At Auckland yesterday a strong north-east wind blew all day and the weather was cloudy to overcast. Light rain fell early this morning, and at 9 a.m. it was overcast with a north-east breeze.

■ Wellington yesterday had dull, mistyweather, with a gentle i southerly. breeze prevailing. It was calm in the night, and a light wind was blowing this morning. The rainfall was !• point.

Christchurch had a dull day yesterday, steady rain falling till 1 p.m. with a south-west breeze. There was light wind in the afternoon, but rain again set in in the evening, the wind turning to the north-east. This morning it was calm to ovorcast and misty with drizzling rain.

At Dunedin yesterday conditions were calm to overcast and misty. At 9 a.m. today it was thick and foggy with a gentle north-east wind. The rainfall was 2 points.
