SPLENDID GIFT
VICTORIA COLLEGE BENEFITS
A set of musical equipment given by the Carnegie Corporation of New York to Victoria University College has arrived, and will be housed for the rest of the year in the college library, as there is at present no suitable accommodation for it. When, however, the biology department moves into the new block which is to be constructed, a soundproof room will be fitted up for the set.
The equipment, which is valued at 2400 dollars, comprises an electric phonograph and amplifier, 945 records in 81 albums, a walnut cabinet, 151 bound volumes of miniature scores, 100 valuable volumes of musical history and .criticism, and a large card index of the records.
The phonograph, which is a particularly fine one, has excited the admiration of experts who have overhauled it. A wide field, from early church offices to modern operatic and symphonic work, is covered by the records, which include a number of complete works.
