WIDER SCOPE ADVOCATED

REQUIREMENT OF CIRCUITS

A plea for a general overhaul of the renomination clauses of the Rules of Trotting as they affected circuit meetings was made by Mr. H. E. Robinson (Hawera) at a meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Conference on Wednesday. In conversation with a "Post" reporter, Mr. Robinson pointed out the limitations of the present rules, which did not allow of renomination from one meeting to another, but only between the first and second days of a particular meeting. This necessitated an owner in some instances nominating a horse for, say, three classes, such as 3min 43sec, 3min 39sec, and 3min 36sec, and not infrequently for an even wider range when the circuit was extensive. The extra expense was a big consideration with owners, particularly those coming from a s distance, and, if the renomination clauses could be made wider in their application, every club included in a circuit would reap indirect benefits.

The Hawera, Manawatu, Wanganui, and Taranaki Trotting Clubs will probably \draft a remit for the next conference on lines suitable to the requirements of a circuit of meetings.
