VERY BIG ENTRY

MASTERTON EWE FAIR

Wright. Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., report:—We held our second Masterton ewe fair in the Colombo yards this week. Ewes poured in from all quarters^ with the result that one of the biggest entries for years was-submit-ted to a good attendance. At the beginning of this season, prospects for ewes looked particularly bright, and paddock sales were made at very attractive prices. It was also anticipated that there would be a general shortage of breeding ewes. However, during the last week or so, record entries have come forward at the main sale centres, and with so many ewes offering, there has been a slight easing off in values when compared with the rather exaggerated ideas ruling a few weeks back. The easing has been in no way serious, however, and this week's ruling prices must be considered most satisfactory from the sellers' point of view. We offered some first-class lines which elicited keen competition. The following are realisations: — Two-tooth ewes: Account Mrs. E. A. Russell, "Rawhiti," 139 at 38s 9d; account T. A. Brown, "Waihi," 193 at 355; account Holmes Estate, "Matahiwi," 150 at 355; account T. A. Brown, "Waihi," 70 at 32s 6d; account Foreman Bros., "Awapiripiri," 188 at 325; account O. H.
