The Budget estimates that the deficit of 87,000,000 dollars will be cut to 35,000,000 dollars. There has been no brighter outlook since 1929, without a single increase in taxation being made. It is hoped to balance the Budget next year, the last of the. tax-free war bonds issues being absorbed. ■ The Civil Service 10 per cent, economy and wage cut is to be restored. . I

The pact with the United Kingdom retains all the' advantages to Canada of the, 1932 agreement, with greater preference for fish, lumber, and dairy products. Britain has granted greater preference in 150 items, particularly textiles, coal, and manufactured goods. The agreement will expire in 1940.
