"LET THEM, QUOTE PRICES"

Interviewed regarding the Builders' Federation resolution criticising the Government's housing scheme, the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) said:'"lf. builders can. give ■us';.'a, -price and do the job the same as the large contractor they will get the work. So that all builders can be kept going we are prepared to deal generously, but it must be remembered that we are handling public money. The scheme was discussed by the Government • with; architects and . all possible evidence .was taken from all quarters to satisfy us that the scheme was the;best.v "
"If.the.small builders who have not thenecessary plant to do the work on a_large.scale can satisfy us that they can build as cheaply, then let them quote prices- and we will talk business,": added Mr. Savage.
