BOOT TRADE
WAGES AGREED UPON
Complete agreement has ■ been reached in the dispute in Conciliation Council between the New-- Zealand Federated Footwear Trades Industrial Union of Workers and the New Zealand Footwear Manufacturers' Association.
After an unbroken sitting well into the afternoon, the parties today agreed that, the wages be 2s 3id an hour for journeymen in the boot trade and 2s 2Jd for those employed in the manufacture of slippers. Women employed in the industry are to be paid Is 3id an hour. The wages for youths range from 15s in the first six months to 75s after five years of service, and for girls from 15s in the first six months to 47s 6d after five years of service, thereafter Is 3}d an hour.
At the conclusion of the hearing both parties expressed appreciation at the way the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. M. J. Reardon) had handled the dispute, and for the assistance he had given the 'assessors.
The award is to come into operation at the beginning of April,
