PRUNING VARIOUS SHRUBS AND TREES. L.H.L. — (1) Ngaio may be.cut back in the spring. It would be advisable to shorten some'of .the branches only next spring and.complete the. job the following year as they do not always come away as one would desire. ' (2) Japanese maple are shrubs that should not require much pruning beyond shortening any extra vigorous growths to keep the bushes shapely. These shrubs do not do well unless well sheltered. (3) With flowering cherry
cut back any long branches which are making the tree unshapely. Winter is the best time, while the tree is bare. (4) Rehnospora should not require any pruning unless any branches are outstripping the general growth and causing unshapeliness! (5) Veronica may .be cut back in the autumn, or if hard pruning is'required do it irv spring. As your space is limited you might be well advised to remove the ngaio altogether. You might replace it, with a weeping standard which would look well in the centre of lhe lawn. .
