SOME RECENT MEETINGS

ORDER OF DRUIDS' Excelsior Lodge.—The Arch Druid, Bro Earnshaw, presided over a good attendance. The bards reported on <;ick members, and sick pay amounting to £37 was passed for payment. Bro. C J. Humphries was received with the honours of the order, this being his first official visit as district president. The secretary gave a commentary on the remits to be considered at the Grand Lodge meeting to be held in Wellington It was decided to present a Past District President's Collar and Diploma to Bro H. J. Willis, who has filled the office of District President for the past two years. A vote of thanks was accorded the visitors, who suitably replied. At the conclusion of business card games were indulged in. Pride of Brooklyn Lodge.—The Arch Druid, Bro. A. J. Giddens, presided over a large attendance. The Royal Arch Druid. Bro. J. Taylor, judged the lodge for the ritual competition for the Mollison Shield. The bards reported on sick members and sick pay was passed. Bro. Mead reported on the recent activities of the Friendly SocietiesMedical Institute. Bro. Dockery le- , ported on the annual meeting of the Druids' Hospital Association The District President, Bro. Willis, advised the lodge that Bro. C. J. Humphries has been elected D.P. for the ensuing term. A vote of thanks to the visitors was replied to by Bro. Taylor, Bro. Jennings Cfixcelsior Lodge), Bro. Nicholls (Totara Lodge), Bro. BroomflelcL (St. Albans Lodge), Bro. Trott (Maitai Lodge), and Bro. E. Warwick (Pahiatua Lodge). Loyal Antipodean Lodge.—The attendance was good at the "sualfort. nightly meeting, Bro. G. Forbes, Noble Grand! putting the necessary business through briskly. . It was resolved that letters of condolence be sent to the relatives of the late Bros. Fitchett and Jupp Bro. Nelson was . placed in charge of the arrangements for a cricket match with Petone Lodge. An invitation was received from Nelson Lodge to play a cricket match at Easter. The invitation was accepted. Sick stewards reported and sick pay was passed. At the conclusion of the meeting bowls and cards were played. Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge.—Sister Joyce Tregurtha presided over the last meeting. There was a good attendance. The programme presented by the social committee, drawn up after conference with Antipodean Lodge, was adopted. The Noble Grand referred to the inclusion of official visits to other lodges and also to invitations to other lodges to visit Sister Wallis Lodge, and appealed for the support of members in making the revival of these fraternal visits a success. Visitors were accorded lodge honours. Sister A. Douglas, lecture mistress, conferred the minor degrees on several members. Bro. Jorttensen gave a supplementary explanation of the utility of the degree's. Loyal Britannia Lodge.—A well-at-tended meetina was presided over by Bro. Woods. Noble Grand. Visitors included a .brother from the Nelson district nnd one from New South AVales. The latter, in responding to the toast, stressed the necessity for unity and brotherhood in the order. Society was, he assorted, tending to disintegrate and unity among lodges as among nations was more essential than ever. During the evening Bro. Madeley made a donation towards the purchase of a furthpr set of indoor bowls and was accorded a vote nf thanks. Sick benefits, being passed for payment and general business disposed of members concluded the evening playing indoor I bowls, ■

Loyal Pctone Lodge (Moera Branch). —The fortnightly general meeting was held recently and was fully attended. Routine business was attended to and reports received. At the conclusion of business social activities were indulged in.

Loyal Newtown Lodge.—Bro. Cooke, Noble Grand, presided over a good atfnndance. Bro. Eades installed Bro. Clark as conductor. Bro. Bryan was granted a letter of recommendation. The balance-sheet was adopted. Bro. Bell moved that Kilbirnie members be invited to a "500" card party early in March..

Loyal Rose of Sharon Lodge.—The last meeting was well attended. ' A report was received in regard to the progress of arrangements for entertaining delegates attending the District Conference to be held at Upper Hutt early in March. It was intimated that a social would be held during the conference for the installation of district officers. Visitors from Sister Wallis Lodge, Kilbirnie Lodge, and a. lodge in Ashburton were accorded the honours of the order.

ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR. Members and friends of Caledonia Chapter, Np. 293, met in large numbers to pay homage to the memory of Robert;. Burns, famous Scottish poet. The Worthy Matron, Sister Jeanie Balton, welcomed everyone. Brother Thomas Kirk. Worthy Patron, occupied the. chair. The programme consisted of Burns items.. Items were, given by Sister Logie^ Sister Jessie McWhinnie, Bro. J. Montgomery, Sister Anderson, Mrs. Todd, and Mr. Foster. The haggis was piped in by Piper Tarrant, and the "Ode to the Haggis" was given by Brother J. Stirling. The address to the "Immortal Memory of Burns" was given by Brother Kirk, W.P. Several of Burns's songs were sung in the community style. Later dancing was entered into in the real Scottish spirit and a most enjoyable evening concluded with the singing of "Avid Lang Syne." ORDER OF RECHABITES. Kilbirnie Tent. —Sister Johnson, P.C.R., presided over a good attendance. Two members were reported sick, and two new members were admitted. The C.R. installed Sister Chadburn as guardian. Matters relating to the Juvenile Tent were dealt with, and Sisters Chadburn, Fulton, Taylor, and Bro. F. G. Johnson were appointed juvenile superintendents. Bro. Anderson reported on a meeting of the Wellington Provincial Council, and Bro. Johnson on the Medical Institute. The secretary read the annual balance-sheet, which was adopted. It was decided that the next meeting be an "open night" and that members of sister tents and friends be invited. The arrangements were left in the hands of Sisters Hems, Chadburn. and Bros. Hems and A. H. and G. Johnson. It was decided to reopen the Juvenile Tent. After the meeting closed members went into harmony.
