RACING EXPENSES
TRAINER'S CLAIM
SETTLED FOR £50
Early this afternoon a compromise was reached on the claim for £299 for training expenses and a 10 per cent, share of stakes .brought by William Henry Jones, a jockey, against /Osmond Disley, merchant, in respect of the racing mare Rona Bay. Disley had claimed a substantial setoff in respect of moneys stated to have been paid to Jones. The parties compromised early this afternoon, Disley agreeing to pay Jones the sum of £50. Mr. A. B. Sievwright appeared for the plaintiff, Mr, B. Cahill for the defendant, and Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., was on the Bench. The taking of accounts between plaintiff and defendant occupied all of Tuesday, yesterday afternoon, and also this morning. .
The basis of the plaintiff's claim was that defendant, who was his uncle, leased the racing mare from its owner and agreed to, pay him £2 10s per week, plus 10 per cent, of the winnings, for training her. Between May 1, 1934, and September 30, 1936, during which period the mare was under the charge of the plaintiff, Rona Bay won between £1100 and £1200. The plaintiff admitted in evidence that subsequent to this period he was suspended for two months and was unable to ride the horse as a result.
