CAR COMPETITION
THREE MEN ON TRIAL
. The last of the twenty-seven witnesses called for the Crown against Harold Fairchild Pobar, an agent, Bertram Egley, a company secretary, and Hannath Noel Blake, a company director, who are standing trial on five charges of false pretences in the conduct of a competition for which a motor-car was offered as prize, was still in the box under cross-examination when the Supreme Court rose for lunch today and his evidence was concluded this afternoon. It is probable that the case will end tomorrow.
Mr. Justice Johnston is presiding. The Crown Prosecutor (Mr. W. H. Cunningham), with him Mr. C. Evans Scott, is conducting the prosecution; Mr. H. F. O'Leary, K.C., with him Mr. T. P. McCarthy, is appearing for Marshall; and Mr. A. H. Macandrew appears for Egley. Pobar is conducting his own defence. Evidence for the Crown this morning included that of the holder of the winning ticket, a Treasury Department accountant, and a detective. j (Proceeding.)
