THREE BRITISH CRUISERS

LONDON, February 23,

Under the re-armament programme the cruisers Effingham. Frobisher, and Hawkins, retained under the London Naval Treaty "escalator" clause, are baing reconstructed immediately as trade.route sentinels.

Henceforth they will carry one large instead of two raking funnels; an aircraft hangar for four aeroplanes, and lighter armament. The speed is to be increased to 31 knots. They will carry 2600 tons of oil fuel, whereby an exceptionally large radius action will be attained. They will become considerably more powerful and more efficient.
