TAWA FLAT WATER SUPPLY
(To the Editor.)
Sir,— "Ratepayer" can rest assured that the Makara County Council will take every precaution in regard to water supply for the ridings of- Tawa, Porirua, and Titahi Bay. My reference to the viaduct stream regarding contamination was made on information which was explained at the council meeting to be incorrect. This was the source of supply for-' the Public Works camp when the' Tawa Flat deviation was under construction, and was approved by the Health Inspector. "Ratepayer" will hear later the inspector's report of both sources of supply, and if this is unsatisfactory that will be the end of that proposal. With the approval of the council the foreman and I were to ascertain any possible sources of supply within the county, and there is, subject to a .favourable report by the Health Inspector, water for the needs of at least 8000 people. Hence my opinion that it was unnecessary to approach the City Council about a water supply. There is going to be a lot of talk before this proposal is an accomplished fact. The council up to the' present moment has no request from the ridings concerned for a supply of water. Some time ago a deputation from Tawa Flat referred to the subject, and Iwell remember one member of the deputation saying'that he hoped the council would investigate the question of a supply, but that nothing would be done until the-popu-lation had increased to such an extent that it would be able to carry the cost of a supply. That is just what the council is doing.—l am, etc., E. WINDLEY.
