APOLLO SINGERS

ANNUAL MEETING

APPEAL TO MEMBERS

The sound financial position of the Wellington Apollo Singers and the success of the past season were referred to by the. chairman (Mr. C. D. Lennie) at last night's annual meeting of the society. Mr. Lennie said that the platform members of the society had carried out their task well and faithfully. Their interpretation of/the works allotted them had proved sound, and I this was indicated by the appreciation I shown by the various, audiences. success, of the singers reflected great credit upon the conductor (Mr. a. Temple White). . Music in: itself, said the chairman, was very beautiful and inspiring, but when: it was accompanied by the spoken word it became a. distinctive art in itself. ' Mr. White made an appeal for more enthusiasm, among members. Wellington musical societies, he said, were a little too modest and retiring, with the result that the Wellington public did not appreciate their true value. Other members spoke along similar lines. The chairman paid a tribute to the work performed by the ladies' auxiliary during the year, and said that they contributed largely to the success of the society. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. During, the evening the A. T. Cartwright Attendance Cup was presented to Mr. S. V. Croft: (second.bass), who had not missed a rehearsal during the season.
