" Reference to the valuable services rendered to music in' Wellington by the late Mr. Robert Parker, C.M.G., a vice-president of the Royal Wellirigtoa Choral Union, was made at the annual meeting of the union last night. A suitable motion was passed. ■ A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. Parker was passed at the annual meeting of the Wellington Apollo Singers last night, those present standing in silence for a few moments. The Wellington Education Board today also recorded its appreciation of Mr. Parker's, services to music and education.

Mr. J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Undersecretary to the Minister of Finance, will leave Wellington tomorrow for Hawke's Bay, where he will inspect proposed State housing sites. Mr. Lee also intends to visit Palmcrston North, and Masterton on similar missions.

Mr. Theo. L. Hall, of Manila, vicepresident and assistant general manager of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, arrived ■ at. Dun'edin by, the Marama. He will attend the International Rotary Conference opening at Wellington on March 2, and will spend a month touring the Dominion. • ■:

Stout., M.T).,, F.R.C.S., has relinquished his appointments as Assistant Director of Medical Services, and Officer Commanding the New -Zealand Medical Corps (Central Command), and has : been' transferred to the reserve of officers. The Rt. Rev. G. A. Chambers, Bishop of Central Tanganyika, who has been in Wellington since Monday, will leave for Picton today. He will visit Nelson, the West Coast, Christchurch, and Dunedin • before returning to Wellington to sail for Australia on.March 24.

, Mr. G. H. Lightfoot, officer in charge of the Labour Department in Dunedin, is retiring on of ill health. Mr. Lightfoot h"as been stationed in Dunedin for close .on fourteen years.

Bennett, of Christchurch, wa's presented with the Hunteriaa Medal by Sir Edmund Spriggs, representing the British Medical Association at last night's reception to the delegates to the biennial conference of the New Zealand branch of the B.M.A. The medal is awarded oy the Britisa . Dr. Bennett's winning essay was on the subject of "The Conduct of ■■ Midwifery in General Practice." fa congratulating Dr. Bennett, Sir Edmund Spriggs said that it had been a y great pleasure to them in England to see the medal come to New Zealand. He hoped that Dr. Bennett would continue along his path of investigation, and that many others would follow his example.

Mr. C. M. Croft, retiring Canadian Trade Commissioner, in New Zealand, left Auckland by the Aorangi last night for Vancouver. Mr. Croft is to spend some months in Canada before taking the post of commercial secretary to the Canadian Legation in Tokio.

Mr. and Mrs. E. Lipsett, of Vancouver, arrived at Auckland by the Aorangi from Sydney on Monday. '■ Mr. Lipsett .was.a guest at the Auckland Rotary Club's luncheon on Monday, and. will proceed to Wellington on Friday to attend the biennial ; Pan-Pacific Rotary conference next week as a delegate from the Vancouver Rotary Club.

Farewell and good wishes for the future were expressed by members of the Wellington Education" Board today to Mr; H. Watson, who has been appointed senior inspector at Nelson, after serving the Wellington Board as an inspector for 11 years. The chairman of the board (Mr. W, V. Dyer) said that the board had received the news' of Mr. Watson's new appointment with mixed feelings. The;memb'ers were pleased with his success but sorry to lose him; Mr. Dyer and others expressed the board's appreciation of Mr. Watson's work, and.,'. Mr, Watson suitably replied. . ,

The death of Mr. Alex McKenzie, a retired teacher, was referred to by, the chairman of the Wellington Education Board (Mr, W. V. Dyer) at-the board meeting today and the board passed a motion of condolence with, his relatives. Mr. Dyer said that Mr. McKenzie had spent the, whole1 of his 44 years' service with the board. He was-educated at Masterton and-began as a pupil teacher there in 1885. He was in successive years assistant at Greytown and at South Wellington, and head teacher at Karori and at Te Aro. He retired in 1929. Other membefs, paid tribute to Mr. McKenzie.
