DUNEDIN," This Day,
The "Otago Daily Times," in an editorial on the New Zealand cricket team, says: "Thjere is no really fast bowler in the Dominion and it is open to question whether Cowie had claims to inclusion superior to those of one or two others. Griffiths may consider : himself, exceedingly fortunate in having been preferred to candidates from other centres. His performances in Shield matches this season have certainly not marked him out as a player qualified to take part in international cricket. Weir . presumably owes his selection to the fact that, unlike Whitelaw, he is an all-round player, and Dunning forced himself into the team by his play in-the last few days. But a team which has to rely on Cowie, Roberts, Griffiths, Dunning, Vivian, and Weir to bear the brunt of its attack must be held to be seriously weak in bowling- On the other hand the batting strength affords confidence."
