SECOND LARGEST BRAIN

The Smithsonian Institution of U.S.A. announces that Dr. Ales Hrdlika, its Curator of Physical Anthropology, unearthed a skull in :the Aleutian Islands last summer having a brain capacity of 2005 cubic centimetres. As far as is known this is the second largest skull on record. The largest is that of Turgenev. the Russian novelist, which had> a.brain capacity 0f,2030 can. After the Aleutian skull rank those of Daniel Webster, 2000 c.cm.; Bismarck, 1965 c.cm.: Lafontaine, 1950 c.cm.; Beethoven, 1750 c.cm.; and Karit, 1740 c.cm. It is not certain that the skull found by Dr. Hrdlika is that of an Aleutian- aborigine, as the facial bones are missing. ■ ■
