THE TENANCY EVIL

FARMING IN UNITED STATES

WASHINGTON, February 16.

In a message to Congress transmitting the report of a special committee on farm tenancy, President Roosevelt said:—

"Less than half the nation's farmers own the farms they are operating. About 40,000 farmers are added each year to the tenant class. Prompt action is necessary to correct this evil. When fully half the farm population no longer feels secure and when millions of our people' have lost their roots in the soil, action to provide security is imperative."
