WINTER-FLOWERING VARIETY
Iris unguicularis, or stylosa, as it is more commonly called, is one of the most useful and beautiful of winterflowering plants. The beautiful pale blue flowers are borne fairly freely on stalks not usually more than 6 or 8 inches long. The foliage gets very dense if the plants are grown in rich soil and the blossoms are hidden. For this reason a rather poor soil in full sun and a warm position should be chosen. In some cases it may even be advisable to shorten the foliage to give the blooms a chance.
