OBITUARY
MR. NORMAN WOOD
Mr. Norman Wood, who died in Christchurch on Sunday in his fiftyseventh year, was well known in Christchurch and Dunedin through his many business, social, and sporting associations. He was born in Akaroa on July 23, 1880, and spent his boyhood in Pahiatua and Greytown. He went to Christchurch in 1903 to a position with Strange's, Ltd., and later with Ballantynes and. the D.1.C., where he was assistant manager. Latterly he was manager of Brown, Ewing, and Company, Dunedin, from which position he retired on account of ill health. For many years Mr. Wood was interested in Freemasonry, and he was a Past Master of the Avon Lodge, Christchurch. He was an enthusiastic follower of most sports and in particular was a consistently successful member of the Christchurch Defence Rifle Club and lately held the position of president of this club. He was runnerup to L. Loveday in the New Zealand championship at Trentham in 1912, and was a member of the club's No. 1 team which won the teams championship in the same year. In 1918 he won the South Island, championship belt. Mr. Wood is survived by his widow and infant son, and by an earlier marriage, Messrs. W. N. Wood, of Dunedin, and O. G. Wood, of Christchurch, and Misses E. J. Wood, of Hamilton, and M. N. Wood, of Christchurch.
