CONCERN AT DELAY

PACIFIC AIR LINE

ASSOCIATED CHAMBERS'

VIEW

(By Telegraph—Press Association.l!

NAPIER, This Day.

,The continued delay in the negotiations regarding the trans-Pacific service proposed by the Pan-American Airways Company had prompted Mr. M. G. C. McCaul, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, who is visiting Napier, to issue a statement on the subject.

"The suggestion that there has occurred a serious hitch in the negotiations between the New Zealand Government and Pan-American Airways for the establishment of an air service will be viewed with alarm by all commercial men who have given any thought to the very real advantages that will accrue to New Zealand from the establishment of such service," said Mr. McCaul. "We do not yet know whether the proposed trans-Tasman services will -eventuate, even if New Zealand contributed a heavy subsidy. The trans-Pacific service is within our grasp. No subsidy is asked. Surely it seems wise to stop haggling and to close the deal while we may. We should not allow this opportunity to pass unless there are grave objections that have not so far been disclosed."
