NECESSITY FOR ACTION
The necessity,. of ; JNew ;• Zealand' increasing its population by an ordered system .of immigration was.stressed;by, Mr. A.; L. Hunt, in an',address -to the council of the Wellington Chamber of: Commerce last evening. V-Mry- Hunt re--ferred to the falling birth-rate both in New Zealand and Britain, arid said'that the Empire's .'position , today. was, serious. It was essential .that-New Zealand ■ should-, absorb-migrants,. and , at the .present moment Britain seemed prepared , to .-finance ;'; a . .migration scheme. The Prime Minister (the Rt.' Hon.- M.J. Savage) 'would ■ be leaving New. Zealand -shortly, 'to "■ attend, the Imperial; Conference; and it .was essential: that.
