FISHING INDUSTRY
INQUIRY TO BE HELD
Following upon previous Government announcements that the fishing industry was one which required a greater measure of co-ordination than at present exists amongst the individual units, the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) has decided to set up a Fisheries Investigation Committee to inquire into and report upon conditions in the industry. The Committee will comprise .Mr. Jas. Thorn, M.P. for Thames, Mr. E. Sheed, Department of Industries, and Mr. M. W. Young, Marine Department. The Committee will conduct its investigations at the main .ports and other centres and evidence will be taken from all interests having a direct bearing upon the welfare and development of the industry..
"When the findings and recommendations o:£ this Committee are presented, the Government will be in. a position to take steps under the Industrial Efficiency Act to bring the units of the industry up to a degree of efficiency and service which will go a long way towards establishing the induslry as one of the most important in the Dominion," stated the Minister today.
