Nelson is thronged . today with! visitors for the official • welcome and garden party this afternoon to the: bands taking part in the New Zealand contest. Nineteen bands' will compete in the marching competition through the streets on the way .to the official ceremony. The weather continues fine, the warmer conditions today favouring outside fixtures. ' ■■'-.■. The judging of the'euphonium B flat amateur cornet solo is proceeding, the large number of entries carrying' /the morning ■ competitions well on into the afternoon. , The. A grade first test, "I Masnadeiri," will be held tonight. Two large solo classes were .judged this morning. The judge (Mr. .Kerry) said he .could claim to know the set euphonium • piece, as. he .was. a pupil of the composer and played it twice a week for six years. The result was: V. Williams (Wanganui Garrison), 90 points, 1; H. Cotton (Nelson Garrison), 84 points, 2; J. Smith (Port Nicholson Silver), 82 points, 3. * ' ' ' /
In the B flat cornet solo for: amateurs, R. Simpson,. (Woolston Brass)', was first with 92 points; Lloyd Lee (Te Awamutu)),'second with 89 points; and F. Storrie (Invercargill Civic), third with 88 points. - 'N
