FEAR OF DRIFT TO WAR

HERR HITLER'S SPEECH

LITTLE ENTHUSIASM

EVIDENCE OF DISCONTENT

(Received February 4, 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, February 3.

The "Manchester' Guardian" points out that information received in London indicates that there is little enthusiasm in Germany for Herr Hitler's speech, and that the adult population is becoming nervous lest Germany drift into war.

In Berlin another evidence of discontent is the resignation of the Minister of Posts and Transport, Baron yon Eltz Rubenach, who declined Herr Hitler's invitation on January 30 to join the Nazi Party as he disapproved of the policy towards Catholics, who received a severe blow in south Bavaria, where 95 per cent, of parents voted in favour of undenominational schools, compared with 65 per cent, who favoured them last year. Ecclesiastical authorities in Munich have issued' a statement protesting against the methods under which the Nazi victory was obtained, alleging illegitimate pressure. The Nazis' first spectacular incursion into the Foreign Office is announced with the appointment of Herr Bradford Bron Bohle as head of a department to organise the Nazi Party in foreign countries. According to a Paris message, "Pertinax" states that the French Government will prevent Herr Bohle's agents abusing diplomatic and consular privileges which Herr Hitler has now conferred on them.
