DULL AT FIRST
AN IMPROVEMENT LATER
Special forecast issued for Wellington:—
Light to fresh south-easterly winds, decreasing: tonight and tending: northerly tomorrow.
Weather dull at first, with possibly a little misty rain in places, but improving tomorrow. Cool temperatures.
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for light to fresh southerly winds which tomorrow will veer to the north about and to the south of Cook Strait. The weather will be cloudy in East Coast districts, with drizzling rain in places, but it will gradually improve and elsewhere it will be fair to fine with cool temperatures.
A weak secondary depression crossed New Zealand yesterday and caused scattered rain and misty weather in parts of the South Island, but otherwise it was fine generally. An anticyclone now covers most of the Tasman Sea, but a weak depression is crossing the southern portion. Winds were easterly in direction in the far north yesterday, but elsewhere were mainly westerly to northerly. A change to southerlies, however, occurred in the far south during the morning, and since then southerlies have extended over the whole Dominion. The weather this morning was overcast with misty rain in eastern areas, but in western districts it was fair to fine.
Auckland's weather yesterday was warm and sunny, a light north-easterly wind turning to the south-west in the evening. It was still fine there this morning, but with more cloud.
Wellington's weather continued to be fine and sunny. A moderate to fresh north-westerly wind died away in the evening, and at 6 a.m. today a light southerly set in. Since then the weather has been overcast with a very light drizzle at times. The maximum temperature was 66.5 degrees and 13 hours of bright sunshine were recorded.
After some early mist and fog, the sky cleared in Christchurch and most of the day was warm and sunny. It became overcast in the evening, however, and was still overcast at 9 a.m. today. A moderate south-westerly wind prevailed there yesterday, with a temporary change to the north-cast in the afternoon.
Dunedin. liad a line day, although it clouded over somewhat in the afternoon, and a fresh southerly wind prevailed. A light southerly breeze was blowing there this morning, the weather being lair to cloudy.
