STRUCK BY ROCK

BLASTING FATALITY

CHRISTCHURCH, February 3,

Struck on the head by a piece of rock, about four inches, in. diameter, which was thrown up during blasting operations at the Summit Road quarry, Robert Grice, aged 42, an employee of the 'Public Works Department, died this afternoon in Christchurch Hospital. Mr. Grice was married, with seven children, and lived in Kenilworth Street, Addington. The accident occurred in the morning, when large boulders were being broken up. Mr. Grice was sitting under a ledge at the other side of the quarry. The stone was thrown over a pile of rock 130 feet high and struck him on the head.
