WORK AT RICCARTON
(By Telegrapli—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The conditions were pleasant for work at Riccarton this morning though there was a cold wind before breakfast. Most of the galloping was done on the outside of the course proper which was in good order, but a number of horses went on the plough, which was fast. There were some interesting trials of horses with engagements on Saturday. On the plough Roaming and Lofty, after going slowly for half a mile, ran home the last three furlongs in 39sec. Wild Chase and Top Notch broke away from the seven-furlong post. They took 50 3-ssec for the first four furlongs and Wild Chase finished in lmin 29 3-ssec, having drawn away from his mate on the run home. He was always going well. Paper Slipper went six furlongs in lmin 16 l-ssec, a good effort. Haughty Winner led Mulatto by a length and a half over half a mile covered in 49 3-ssec.
Royal Chief began better than Cerne Abbas from., the six-furlong post. They were together' after doing three furlongs in 37 l-ssec, and finished the journey in lmin 16 l-ssec, with both travelling strongly. Pink Robe and Prirnak went five furlongs in lmin 4 2-ssec. Sunbeam and Lustral took lmin ssec. Bright Red went about nine furlongs, Pahu joining in over the last seven, which took lmin 33sec. Comus and Dictate went half a mile in 50 2-ssec. Invoice and In the Dark went three furlongs in 37 l-ssec and Garonne took 39sec.
Heloise and Mercenary were companions over six furlongs covered in lmin 17 3-ssec. Rose of Tralee took lmin 21 l-ssec for six furlongs. Chidden and Sovereign Lady did a mile in lmin 45 3-ssec, going at even pace all the way. Knockfin and Gaysome were on terms after six furlongs covered in Imin, 16 4-ssec, Concertpitch following in lmin 17 2-ssec, going com' fortably, while Recollection and Cape Gabo were not hurried to do the dis' tance in lmin 19 l-ssec.
Argentic and Tunneller were mates over seven furlongs. The first four took 51sec and the full journey lmin 30sec, with Tunneller in front. It was a good gallop.
On the grass Elegy went half a mile jin 48 3-ssec. Queen of Song and Superex were mates over seven furlongs in lmin 32 2-ssec. Lazybones beat Mob Rule by a length over half a mile in 48 3-ssec. Top Row and Made Money sprinted down the straight. Fiord went about five furlongs and was brought home over the last half-mile by an unnamed mate in 48 3-ssec. Great Star and Coming Star did useful work over six furlongs. Nightbound and Gresham went half a mile in 49 4-ssec. Rotokino, going easily, took 53 2-ssec.
Polydora strolled along about a mile and a quarter, taking lmin 47sec for the last mile. Happy Night went half a mile nicely in 49 3-ssec. Forum beat Palady over seven furlongs in lmin 30 l-ssec, a smart effort. Palmyra beat Rebel Chief easily over half a- mile in 49 4-ssec.- Orange Bud beat Owls Gleam over six furlongs in. lmin 18 2-ssec, with Dropped Catch several lengths further back. Great Bramble led Night Dress half a mile up the back in 50sec. Rousseau and Joyous took lmin 17 3-ssec for six furlongs, Golden Dart following in lmin 20sec. Derive ran the last half-mile of her work in 53 3-ssec. Roy Bun went five furlongs in lmin 5 3-ssec, Screamer following in lmin 5 l-ssec. Skylass went a mile in lmin 48 2-ssec. Epic and Galnavon took lmin ssec for five furlongs.
Willie Win, after taking 55 l-sscc for the first half-mile, completed a mile in lmin 47 l-ssec. Vintage registered a good effort over the mile, running the first half in 51 3-ssec and completing the task in good style in lmin 41 l-ssec.
Among the jumpers Golden Lap and Blazon jumped two brush hurdles in company, the former going over them again by himself. Both horses went very well. Later on Blazon came out again and gave a good display over five steeplechase fences. Nocturnus accompanied him over the first three after a preliminary over one of the brush hurdles. Hunting Bag went well in a school twice over two brush hurdles.
P. T. Hogan arrived overnight with Queen of Song, Superex, Made Money, and Top Row.
