HEALTH INSURANCE

EVIDENCE BEING TAKEN

The special- committee set up by the Minister of Health (the Hon. P. Fraser) to consider representations from local bodies and other organisations in connection with health insurance commenced its sittings in Wellington today. The chairman of the committee is Dr. D. G. McMillan (Government, Dunedin West).

Some months ago hospital boards, dental and medical associations, and other bodies and institutions interested in health insurance, were asked by the Government to express their opinions in writing concerning a health insurance scheme. These opinions are now being considered by the committee, which is also hearing evidence. The committee will later report to the Minister of Health.

The committee's proceedings are being conducted in camera.
