RAILWAYMEN'S UNION
THE A.S.R.S. ORGANISATION
The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants has changed its name, and is now' the New Zealand Union of Railwaymen. The decision was taken early in the proceedings of the biennial conference, which opened on Monday In his address of welcome to delegates, the president, Mr. E. J. Dash, mentioned that with the coming of the New Zealand Labour Party into power the executive council of the society had decided to seek affiliation. Owing to the society's terms of recognition with the Government, however, that could not'be done right away and it took a solid ten months of effort to achieve the objective. The society was represented at the last Easter Conference of the New Zealand Labour Party for the first time.
