ESPERANTO CLUB
The weekly meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club was held last Monday night -in the clubroorn, Nathan's Building, Grey Street. Mr. Bertram Potts presided. He congratulated the ex-president, Mr. Vernon J. Leek, D.8.E.A., on the efficient way he had carried out his self-imposed task of writing to at least *wo Esperanto clubs abroad each week and conveying the greetings of the Wellington Esperanto Club. Up to the end of last year, when Mr. Leek had been obliged to hand over the duty to the new president owing to stress of other work, greetings had been sent to fifty-nine countries'in 194 letters. During the previous week correspondence had been sent to England, Finland, Yugoslavia, Lithuania, Germany, and the Netherlands.
After the enrolment of new members, classes were organised under the direction of experienced teachers. The programme portion of the evening opened with piano selections by Mr. J. W. O'Neill. Mr. Anton Vogt, club secretary, gave an entertaining talk entitled "Mia Afrika Aventuro," with photographs projected on to the screen by the club's epidiascope. Mr. Gordon Blong and Mr. David Kirk presented an amusing sketch, "Kiam Bessie Maisanis," an original work of the former. A short community "sing" followed, when "Beautiful Lady in Blue" and "San Francisco" were sung in Esperanto, which proved very popular. The concluding item was an original sketch by the president, entitled "Silentu!" Ihe roles being presented by Mr. Henri W. Thorns and Mr. Bertram Potts.
