Wadestown Garden Party.

Lovers of gardens will have an opportunity of seeing one of the loveliest gardens in Wadestown on Saturday next, when, through the generosity of Mr. Ernest Cook, 170 Wadestown Main Road, the Presbyterian Ladies' Association will hold a garden party there. Mr. Cook's begonias are worth going many miles to see, it is stated, and at present they are beautiful in their wonderful variety of vivid colouring. Mrs. J. A. Doctor and members of the committee will welcome old and new friends to the fete on Saturday afternoon. "Gift Evening." A very enjoyable "gift evening" was held recently in honour of Miss Linburgh's approaching marriage to Mr. Harry Gibson. Items were given by Misses O. Griffiths, H. Bowcock, and D. Violich, and were greatly appreciated by all. Miss Linburgh was the recipient of many- usefuj gifts, and much amusement was caused on her opening the many parcels. About sixty guests were present, amongst whom were Mesdames Linburgh, W. Biddle, E. Muir, Thompson, Violich, Gibbs, Briggs, Corunna, C. Dyer, Marker, and the Misses G. Roberts, H. Bowcock, A. Todd, M. Riddle, B. Marsh, Masterton, O. Griffiths, E. Corner, E. Masters, and H. Masters. Mass Weddings in China. The vogue for mass weddings in China, which has been encouraged by the Government, has now spread to a school for the blind in the Talen district to the province of Kwantung, states an exchange. Six. couples, all blind from early childhood, were married there recently by the headmaster of the school. The mass wedding was attended .by fifty fellowstudents who formed a guard of honour, and a bridal arch with their white sticks. Mass' weddings are being encouraged in China in the interest of economy. Social Afternoon. A social afternoon will be held at the Parish Hall, St. Matthew^, Brooklyn, on Friday afternoon, when Mrs. Sprott and the Rev. Mr. Tye and Mrs. Tye will be the guests of honour. The party will begin at three o'clock, and it is hoped that all parishioners will attend.
