HANDLING CHARGES

INCREASED RATES

Following the recent increase of 3d an hour in the wages of freezing workers, it is announced that the charges for handling products by freezing companies are to be increased.

In the Hawko's Bay district an additional charge of l-20th of a penny a pound on mutton, pork, veal, and lamb, l-4Oth of a penny a pound on quarter beef, and Jd a pound on felling wool have already been imposed.

It is expected that these additional charges, which operated as from the beginning of this month, will apply throughout the whole of New Zealand.

It is stated that it was understood at the conference called to settle the recent stoppage of work in freezing works that in the event of wages being increased, handling charges at works would have to be increased also.
