BELIEVED CERTAIN
SHIPPING STRIKE SETTLEMENT
COMPANIES MAKING
BOOKINGS
SAN FRANCISCO, February"!.
A settlement of the shipping strike is regarded as certain, and steamship lines have started booking passengers and accepting cargoes in. expectation of resuming operations on Thursday.
The Matson Line proposes that the Monterey shall sail on February 10 unless she is delayed in discharging cargo. She will probably sail again immediately on arrival at Sydney to make up the week lost on the sailing schedule. The company has instructed that preference be given to Australians and New Zealanders, and anticipates that every berth will be occupied.
It is stated that the strike ruined what promised to be a record summer for tourists, though the majority will go later.
