WELLINGTON SHOW
IN CORONATION WEEK
Opening the first meeting for the year of the Wellington Show Association last night, the president, Mr C. J. B. Norwood, said that they hoped to look forward to the most important year of the association. There were difficulties ahead, and fuller attention would have to be devoted to the association affairs than before, from now until 1940, but there was no reason why the show should not be the best financially as well as from the point of view of the public. It was decided to make the show dates from May Ito May 15. In support of this reversion to the originally selected dates, Mr. Norwood said that it would give the opportunity of trying out a winter period against an Easlexperiod without jeopardising the holding of future shows at Easter. Another important reason was that during Coronation Week there would be many important entertainments, and the most would be made of the event in all the big cities. It would require some imagination to make it a Coronation exhibition, and appropriate events would have to be staged, but with forethought they could produce an exhibition entirely worthy of the occasion. The association would benefit by the influx of visitors to the city during that time. There would be no difficulty in filling the sideshow space, said the manager (Mr. G. Mitchell), in fact two-thirds of it had been booked already. The amended horse programme had met with the approval of interested people in the province. Various events suitable for the next show were discussed.
