FLYING DOCTOR
GOVERNMENT BUYS 'PLANE The Commonwealth Government is buying an aeroplane for the flying doctor of NortHern Australia (Dr. Fenton), and when this is available the Government will expect him to use it on . his official medical service, in preference to the machine which was presented to him by the public. It was made clear in Canberra that It was because the Government had realised the need for the flying doctor's services that it had decided to purchase an aeroplane for his use.. The Government's view is that the presentation machine is Dr. Fenton's private property. He is at liberty to use it privately as much as he likes. It will be regarded, however, as an emergency machine. Dr. Fenton will be able to use it on his medical services if the official aeroplane is out of action through any cause, such as the necessity for repairs or overhaul In that event the Government would subsidise Dr. Fenton for the use of his own machine. Until the Government aeroplane has been provided, Dr. Fenton will use his presentation aeroplane, and v the Government will pay him the ordinary subsidy. The Civil Aviation Department is buying the official machine. It will be a Fox Moth, equipped for the conveyance of patients, and will provide more accommodation for medical supplies than the Gipsy Moth machine formerly owned by the doctor. The authorities consulted him in the choice of the official machine, and the decision to purchase the specially eqjdpped Moth Vfa §.
