THE DANNEVIRKE SHOW.
An outstanding event of the autumn , in Southern Hawke's Bay is the annual show of the Dannevirke A. and P. i Association, which is scheduled to take place on February 9 and 10 at the association's -well-appointed showgrounds, easy of access from all quarters, and situated within the confines of the town. Those who' have exhibited at this fixture in the past and those who have attended as patrons are well aware of the facilities and attractions provided. Schedules of competitive classes have been issued, disclosing a prize list of £900 in cash and trophies, distributed with a liberality which should prove attractive to all who are interested in such events. The judges have been selected with due regard to their special fitness, and those who will adjudicate should' give general satisfaction. As usual, there is a very fine array of special cups and trophies in the horse, cattle, sheep, pig, and dog sections, some of which are being competed for for the first time, and all are well worth winning. The competitions are, as usual, very attractive, and those on the first day include classes for best girl and boy riders, one each for those 12 years and under, and over 12 years and under 16 years. There are three pony jumps, a novice jump, turning competition (ladies and gentlemen), maiden jumping event, wire jump (hunting style) for ladies, and a handy hunters' competition, in which the competitors have to jump into and out of sheep yards, etc., and over such fences and ' hurdles as the stewards may decide. On the second day the competitions : comprise one for best lady rider, , champion pony jumping, bareback riding, ladies' hunters' event, wire jump (hunting style), a consolation jump, and a sheep dog trial. Such an j extensive range should provide keen 1 competition, which is expected to be i an outstanding feature all round, on < account of the brighter prospects i ahead and the changed outlook for all « classes of the community. Entries 1 close with the secretary on Tuesday. 1 January 26. j
