CHIEF RACE TO WINSHOW

CARTERTON, December 28.

The, weather was fine but overcast at the commencement of the second day of the South Wairarapa Trotting Club's Meeting and light rain commenced to fall at the beginning of the third race. There was a good attendance and the totalisator handled £3130 10s, against £2812 last .year, making the total for the meeting ,£7671 10s, against £6187, an increase of £1484 ,10s. ;

The McDougall Handicap was won by P. Skougaard's Winshow, after a tightly-fought run against Activity.

An inquiry was held into the running of Great Sonoma, who won the first race and failed miserably on. his second start. The stewards thought his running inconsistent, but after hearing evidence they accepted the owner's explanation.

Harold Logan again gave an exhibition of unhoppled trotting. He covered the mile in, 2min 18 4-ssec, and received an ovation from the crowd.
