SYNOPSIS OF LAST 48 HOURS. , On Saturday a shallow depression was crossing New Zealand and was being followed by an anticyclone of slight intensity. There had been a change to light southerly winds over a large part of the South Island and this gradually extended over much of the North. Though in places dull and misty with light drizzling rain in the morning the weather was for the most part fair and temperatures warm. On Sunday the anticyclone passed eastwards and another depression approached from the Tasman Sea. Light to moderate north-easterly winds prevailed and the weather was, in most places, cloudy, warm, and sultry. Though many places had a'few drops there was little rain of consequence. This morning the depression from the Tasman Sea was located over the Dominion; the winds had changed to southerlies again over much of the South Island; skies were mainly overcast with mist or fog in many places and widespread rain. Some heavy falls had been recorded on the west coast and in the ranges of the South Island.,
