Grindlay, Beau Star won the Rahotu Hurdles narrowly from Redolent. Beau Star ran to the front after going half a mile, but was joined soon afterwards by Redolent, followed by Delrain and Don Erma. There was little between the four at the last fence, but Beau Star did best in the run to the post, and won by a head Delrain and Bean Star were close" up. Rua King, the favourite, never looked likely. . Jumping out smartly, Prince Rangi was never headed in the Huatoki Plate. Prince Rangi and Student Prince were together nearly all the way, but over the last furlong Prince Rangi drew out, and won by a length and a half. It was a good performance and the winner is promising. Student Prince was outside two horses for most of the journey. Brioni finished well in third place. Te Huia was left at the post and took no part in the race. Cheval de Volee was always prominent in the Borough Juvenile Handicap and won narrowly after running wide at the turn. Winsome Lv was on terms with him at the home turn, and, better handled, would have won. Shemseh finished well in third place after being well back early in the race. Ripple made a fine showing, being one of the leaders most of the way and only weakening over the last furlong. Little Robin and King Koroki did best of, the others. _, . „ .. Royal Secret won the Flying Handicap from end to end, but was lucky to get the decision, as she ran wide at the turn and bored out on Lady Kyra, who was moving up fast. Royal Secret only won by half a head, but after an inquiry the stewards decided not to alter the placings. Notium was with Royal Secret in front for half a mile, and then weakened into third place. The race should improve him. Coming with a fine run on the outside Airing won the Uruti Hack Handicap in good style. Bantry, Red Fox, and Tutor were prominent in the early stages. Bonny Glow had a run at the front at the home turn, but Airing and Seaman came fast and fought out the issue, Airing winning by a neck. Banfry was a good third, and Bonny Glow fourth. Seaman was unlucky at the entrance to the straight. Master Limond and Corowa showed no dash. The veteran Refresher scored a popular win in the Christmas Handicap. Tradesman made most of the pace, followed by Refresher and Gold Mission. Refreshes moved up at the home turn, and in the run to the post always had Tradesman's measure and won by a long neck.
