Pleading guilty to a charge of knowingly assisting a patient in the Templeton Farm School mental institution to escape, Albert Victor Martyn, a seaman, aged 21, appeared before Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., in the' Magistrate's Court today. Sub-inspector J. A. Derhpsey said that the accused was not actually the instigator. The affair-happened in August, and the accused was arrested on Sunday on a warrant issued; in Christchurch. The principal had, ajK peared in a Christchurch court, and was fined £25. The offence consisted of picking up the patient in a car at night and driving him to the principal's lodgings. The accused gave a description of his part in the affair. "I think it is quite clear that you are not the instigator, but you have assisted in the commission of a serious offence," said the Magistrate. The accused ■was convicted and fined £3, in default fourteen clays' imprisonment.
